Madysen Is Born; Talks Almost Immediately Thereafter [Archives]

On September 30, 1993, Holly and I were thrust in parenthood. Early that morning, Holly was induced at Southwest Medical Center of Oklahoma City. The Symtocin started it’s work slowly. And by 10:30 a.m., nothing was really happening, so I went down to grab a bite to eat in the hospital cafeteria. When I got back to the room, things had progressed considerably. In fact, I almost missed the big event. They threw me into scrubs, and I took my place next to Holly. The doctor suggested that I come down to the business end, which I thought was particularly odd. He insisted, asserting that there was really nothing I could do at that point. Why had I gone to all those Lamaze classes?

At 12:11 p.m., Madysen was born. The temperature in the room immediately spiked from sub-zero to more than a hundred degrees.Other than a bit of jaundice, she was healthy. It’s been an amazing ride ever since.
