Layla Makes An Appearance [Archives]

Speaking of Layla, on March 4, 1999, at about 10:30 a.m., Layla Everett was born at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

I knew her birth was imminent when I came home from school the previous day to see Holly is full nesting mode. At that time, we had the kids’ bedroom furniture in one bedroom and all there toys in another. On that day–a full nine-months pregnant–she had decided that the rug in one room (underneath everything) needed to be underneath everything in the other room. So she moved everything. Crazy lady, I say.

While the matter was still being worked out, two friends from law school showed up to see how everything was. I remember the nurse coming in to Holly’s room saying to Holly–with a quizzical look on her face–”There are two guys out there who want to come in and see you.” Holly, in no mood to see much of anyone at that point, especially these two, said for me to go talk to them and not return with them following me in.

Anyway, mom and baby went home the next day and Layla got her first bath. Looks like she loved it.

And then she got to spend more time with big sis and big brother.

The announcement:

Wait a minute, that’s not how I remember it.
How it happened was this: Law School Friend K said to LSFT “Let’s go see if we can get us some epidural type drugs.”
LSFT replied, “Nope. I just want to bring comfort, and flowers.”

Upon arriving at the correct door, CM snatched the flowers away from LSFT saying “Gimme those. Now beat it. Oh, and hurry up and finish that con law outline so’s I can use it on the test.”
Then a flying carpet picked up LSFT and K and deposited them on big rock candy mountain.

Glad you got guys got that straightened out.

For accuracy’s sake, Holly says that you guys came over while she was trying to get Layla out of her. Not that either of you would have known that at the time, but I guess it underscores he desire not to see either of you.
