The finals for Madysen’s tournament weren’t played until 6 p.m. on Sunday night. We didn’t get back to Plano until almost midnight–with the first day of school the next day. And because the kids were starting at the new schools, we had to get up early to drive through rush hour traffic to get there in time. Emma and Layla weren’t their most alert eating breakfast.

We did manage to stop by the new house before school and take a quick photo, complete with pained expression on Speed.

Then Holly and I went off to closing on the new house–called Farmington (more to come later)–which went well except for a few contentious moments involving the survey. Upon officially owning Farmington, Holly and I began moving items via car. Movers were coming on Wednesday to move furniture and boxes, but Holly had a ton of stuff that she didn’t want to pack (I’m serious, we must have made 25+ trips to haul stuff ourselves that week).
Emma, our final kindergartner, got out of school first. She absolutely loved her teacher, her class, everything about being a kindergartner. She gushed about it the rest of the afternoon. Layla too enjoyed her first day as a second grader. Madysen and Speed adjusted well in their new schools (8th and 6th grades, respectively), though Speed won’t admit it.
At some point that afternoon, Holly became so upset about how dirty the house was that she sent us out to the pool while she cleaned. Fine by us.

[...] Though we had started moving on Monday (a week ago Monday, August 21st), the movers came on Wednesday to move furniture and boxes. It didn’t start out well. First, they were very late getting started. [...]

[...] The other day, I mentionedthat we have decided to name the new house, “Farmington.” I have long wanted to name our homes–both because it has been a popular convention throughout history and in the hope that we’d be less likely to move away from a home that we had such an attachment to. [...]
