While I was working in Hackensack, Speed had a friend over. Since our backyard is filled with a garage and a pool, Speed and Preston went across the alley to the empty lot to throw the football. Speed learned that their is a sewer drain in the alley in front of that lot–when his football went down the drain. Holly, being the spendthrift that she is, made Speed go into the sewer through the manhole to retrieve the ball.
Now, I wasn’t present to hear Speed whine about going into through the manhole, but I do recall him freaking out several years ago on a Cub Scout camp-out when I told him he had to bait his own hook. Lots of whining and crying later, we quit fishing because he refused to bait the hook. (Madysen, on the other hand, was baiting and fishing like crazy.) In fairness to Speed, that episode was several years ago. But according to eye witness reports, this sewer episode was similar–except that Holly made him go get the ball. I’m happy to say that the ball was recovered and Speed emerged unharmed.
