Following Madysen’s and Speed’s big wins on Saturday, Holly and the kids and Madysen’s teammate AK went to the Hyer Elementary School Carnival–I was on my return flight from London. Everyone had fun at the various games, etc. Layla and Emma were fitted with fake arm casts, which they wore for days. Madysen and AK (and maybe Speed) climbed the rock wall.
Holly put the ideas together and suggested to Madysen and AK that they tell their coach they got hurt climbing the rock wall. So they emailed or called coach and told him that they had fallen on the rock wall and were on their way to the emergency room. Coach emailed me expressing concern and asking for the status of their injuries. Then he called my cell and Holly’s trying to get information. Apparently, he also called AK’s dad, who was in a business meeting and had no idea about the “injuries.” Meanwhile, the girls emailed him pictures obtained from the Internet of broken bones claiming they were out of commission for some time.
Finally, I put him out of his misery and explained the hoax. He took it pretty well but let Holly know that he expected her to bring her running shoes to the next practice. He also informed the girls that he had found them a spot at another team in the club.
