As many readers may recall, Emma is a virtual Tinkerbell–what some might call vim and vigor, others sass. So, the idea that she can be talked into something or even persuaded as to the value of anything is laughable. As I have detailed previously, she “played” soccer for a year under serious protest. And though she was actually a pretty good baseball player, when I mention the idea of her playing again, she simply says, “Dad, stop.”–as in, “Dad, you’re an idiot for even suggesting the idea.” She wasn’t even that excited about ballet. She enjoyed it more than soccer and baseball but always scoffed at the idea that she should continue doing it.
What she actually does enjoy is gymnastics. (Way back in the some of the early posts here, I put up a video of her old routine from last summer.) Anyway, she resumed gymnastics last week–in the same outfit she wore in this picture from May 2005.

Needless to say, Holly says the outfit was a bit snug. She went to another session this week–it’s really the only organized athletic activity she seems interested in (though she loves to kick the soccer ball around in the backyard). (I’m not even going to analyze whether gymnastics is a sport–what will all the subjective judging–as I’ve got my mind made up about it and probably so do you, so let’s just move on.)
