Publication Day [Books]

Today is big. See, my boy Trench has achieved something special today. His book, The Book Thief: The True Crimes of Daniel Spiegelman, has finally been published. You can get it on Amazon right now–but hurry they only have one left in stock. The real question is, if someone buys the one in-stock copy, how far does the book climb up Amazon’s sales rank (it’s currently 340,507th)? And at $49.95 each, the question may really be if someone buys the book, rather than when.

I have read the book–a galley proof–and enjoyed it. Interesting to anyone with an interest in rare books, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, or true crime novels.

As a completely disinterested party, I’d say this book is worth about half the cover price. Also, if you’re a Chris Maynard fan, you can see his name in the Acknowledgments section. I’m not sure that’s worth $50, so just borrow his copy.

What’s up, Trench? Amazon now says the book hasn’t been released. But the sales rank has jump up to 199,055–due in no small part to the buzz generated by my endorsement.

  3. trench says:

I just noticed that. And my three five-star ratings got taken off. I guess your blitz made them run out of books and think that they never had any to begin with. You messed up their computer.
As it happens, I’ve been pushed up to 21,983 today.

21,983? Sounds like a movie rights deal may be in your future.

What happened to the rave review from Stephanie Hoffer–whoever that is?

And on what planet are you a lawyer?

  5. trench says:

I was wondering when you were going to ask about the lawyer thing. It, like most of the rest of the book outside the actual text, wasn’t my idea. Neither was pretty much giving away every stitch of the story in the promotional materials.
I wish they had said I was a particle physicist – but that doesn’t move copy.
