Layla, An Entrepreneur [School]

Recently, Layla has taken a shine to photography. So when she had to come up with an idea of a product to sell at her class’ Economics Fair, she decided to take some photos and sell them. She’d never really taken pictures, so I wasn’t sure how this would turn out.

But we went to the Dallas Arboretum soon thereafter, and she took a bunch of photos there. (You can see the whole set on her flickr page.) She actually took some pretty good photos. My favorites:

Anyway, so she picked several of her favorites, matted them with matching cardstock, and put them in Ikea photo frames–all for 44 cents each. She printed business cards and marketed the photos as great Mother’s Day gifts.

Today was the Economics Fair. She took 44 photos and had them priced at $2 each (fake money, of course). She sold them all, including the last few at a $1 sale price. She also spent a bunch of money (again, fake) on Mavs-themed hair coloring, a basketball painted on her face, a bracelet, hair clips, and assorted other items.
