Mother’s Day Is Happy Day; The Eve Of, Not So Much [Holly]

At leat for this year, Mother’s Day is painful for Holly. See we had a great little night planned last night as a three-week-early anniversary celebration. A quick bite to eat at the Stoneleigh P, of which Holly said, “My salad dressing was good.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Then we were off to see Harry Connick, Jr. at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie. Less than a mile from the arena, we got into an accident, causing significant damage to the Maxima. No one appeared injured in the other vehicles involved.

When the collision happened, both of our airbags deployed, the smell of which was very unsettling to Holly. Once out of the car, Holly’s left wrist was really bothering her. The EMTs were fairly certain that the wrist was fractured, but she didn’t want them to take her to the ER. They looked at me as though I had a say in the decision. Finally, they prevailed upon her. (She rated her pain 5 out of 10 (and later 3), so it was less painful than a broken femur and childbirth.)

After two plus hours in the ER (with one nurse who Holly did not like for his utter lack of humor and a doctor who was none too pleasant), we confirmed that her radius bone is fractured. It’s her first ever broken bone (wow!), and it’s in a sling for now. She needs to see an orthopaedist to see whether she’ll need surgery to repair the wrist or whether a cast will be sufficiently.

So Happy Mother’s Day to Holly. And to my mother an mother-in-law, though it’s a bit of a downer to wish them so at this point.
