Last night, Layla had her big ballet ordeal in a production of Alice in Wonderland. She was excited as always leading up to the performance. She was a Rocking Horsefly, which I don’t exactly remember from the book or the movie adaptation, but whatever. She was her usual awesome self.
At intermission, Layla received her bouquet of flowers (no one knows what kind they are) and everyone headed home except Layla, Emma, and I. They watched the final act with rapt attention enjoying it very much. Once home, we had a homemade ice cream cake. Yummy.
The night was bittersweet for me. Layla recently told me she doesn’t want to do ballet next year, but she hold out the possibility of coming back to it at some future time. I understand that it is a lot of hard work for only a few public performances (only one other performance all year), which is definitely Layla’s favorite part. And I never envisioned having a ballerina. It’s just that Layla has loved it so much and has always acted like (I assume) an actual ballerina. But who knows what the future holds.
