On Tuesday evening, I pulled up to the house about 6:30 p.m. to see a UP police vehicle parked on the street near our house. When I looked at the front door, I saw a police officer standing in the doorway. Highly perplexed, I walked into the house to see only the officer and all four kids–no Holly.
Of course, a thousand scenarios are running through my head. Everything from Holly having been kidnapped to her being at the store for milk while one of the kids run into the street in front of the police vehicle and lots of stuff in between. Maybe Holly had had another fight with Johnny Law? (I can definitely say that I’ll be happy if I never see any of the kids having a “talk” with an officer again.) Turns out that Holly was completely fine and in the shower. She knew the officer was there but didn’t come out to handle the situation. “Why not?,” you ask. You obviously don’t know Holly.
Anyway, after Holly got into the shower, someone had called 911 and hung up. So 911 called the house, and Speed “accidentally” stepped on the phone–answering it and hanging it up in the same misstep. With this, the entire UP emergency services swung into action. The officer arrived first and after realizing the false alarm called off the dogs.
It did take a while for the guilty party to confess. And no, surprisingly, it wasn’t Speed. As her phone showed, she called several random numbers (191, 83, 911, etc.) for
no apparent reason. The officer lectured her in great detail about playing with phones and 911, and Layla was very sad. She went to her bedroom and fell asleep for the night.
Based on this and our other recent emergency service dealing, I must disagree with the Public Enemy poets, though they probably weren’t thinking of the Park Cities when they penned their lyrics.
