I took a quick trip to Philadelphia for law school interviews earlier this week. This was my first ever trip to Philly, and I must confess I was a little disappointed in myself for not having a stronger interest in the city. I have a huge interest in early American history, but, for whatever reason, I’ve never put it very high on my list of important places to see. For shame.
Though without sufficient time to linger and sufficiently appreciate it, I was able to swing by Independence Square, which is the site of Independence Hall, which just happens to be where the Declaration of Independence was signed, where the Philadelphia Convention debated and drafted (and ultimately signed) the Constitution of the United States. Following the Constitution’s ratification, the Federal Government occupied buildings in and around the Square. Anyway, I wish I’d had more time to soak it all in (and that the Liberty Bell was better lit).

I also stepped into the National Constitution Center. I didn’t have much time, so I didn’t buy a ticket to obtain general access to the Center. Besides, I couldn’t find a quality-bound copy of the Constitution in the store, so I wasn’t that impressed.
