Speed started playing lacrosse just a year ago, and it has been really fun watching him play. This fall, he’s playing on the middle school’s 7/8 grade B team. On Saturday, they played in the first of two tournaments this fall.
Their first game was against the Allen 7th grade team. Allen scored in the first minute, which gave me and many of the parents (and likely the coach) great pause. HP woke up soon thereafter, got an equalizer, and went on to win 7-1. Speed played okay; he’s still learning the game. My biggest complaint to him is that he fails to utilize his speed in favor of trying to hit someone. E.g., he’ll be several steps ahead of an opponent when chasing a loose ball. Instead of out-running the opponent to the ball and then away, he’ll slowdown to allow the opponent to catch up so that Speed can hit him. Hopefully, he’ll figure out a balance soon.

After winning the ball, he broke out and tried to make another tough pass

As he made the pass, he was hit, which sent the pass sailing over the crossbar and sent a shoe, a glove, and his stick in various directions
In the second game, they played Wrangler Maroon. They scored the first goal, but then gave up three–the last two after penalties and a man down. In the last couple of minutes, they got two goals back to tie 3-3. Speed didn’t see the ball as much in this game, but he went on one good run.

They play one more bracket game on Sunday, which I believe they’ll have to win to advance to the finals. I’ll be on a plane, so I have to rely on Holly for details–which means very little details and no pictures.
