I’ve always been a bit of a physical soccer player, but as I’ve gotten older and my speed has diminished, physical play has taken a more prominent role in my game. Commensurate with that, I’ve heard a few opponents refer to me as a Hansen brother, and while I knew generally what they were referring to, it wasn’t until I recently watched Slap Shot that I completely understood. And I must say that I take some pride in the name-calling. It’s not exactly great cinema, but it is a funny late 70s movie about semi-pro hockey in an one-plant town.
Déjà Vu stars Denzel Washington as a local New Orleans ATF agent helping to find the perpetrator of a ferry bombing. It takes a twist from the general crime action/drama genre by adding a sci-fi element to not only find the bomber but actually manage to prevent the bombing entirely. Oh yeah, Denzel also gets the girl.
Babel is–in a word–awful. It’s a combination of four stories, three of which are linked, on three different continents. As three of the stories were linked, I waited the entire movie to find the link to the fourth story, to no avail. That’s just weird. Regardless, I found the entire thing profoundly boring and dumb.
