In D.C. Again: American Exceptionalism [Travel]

200711191803 Last Thursday-Saturday, I attended the Federalist Society‘s National Lawyer Convention celebrating the Society’s 25th Anniversary and held at the Mayflower Hotel. The theme was “Shining City Upon a Hill: American Exceptionalism” and there were lots of very interesting panels (see the agenda here). Among the many great panelists, my personal favorites were Professor Gordon Wood (for whom I’ve professed an affinity for before), Professor Akhil Reed Amar, and Judge Frank Easterbrook.

In addition to the panels, Presidential candidate Rudy Guliani made a speech and Chief Justice John Roberts delivered the Barbara K. Olson Memorial Lecture. And on Thursday night, the Gala (held at Union Station) featured President Bush (who called Justice Scalia “Anton”), former Attorney General Ed Meese, and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Sam Alito. (Ted Olson, former Solicitor General served as MC and the Federalist Society’s founders also spoke.) An excellent conference.

The Federalist Society! Some people never change. I received your Christmas card and letter. I can’t believe how big the kids have gotten! I remembered holding Emma at the summer associate bowling outing and now she is all grown up.

It was great to hear from you and I’m glad to hear (or I guess read) that everyone’s doing well (except for Holly and her poor wrist – good for her that she now has something to hold over your head for the rest of your life). Have you heard from anyone else from school? Is Harry K. still alive? Is E. a famous professor?

Are you still with JD? (I guess I could scroll around through this site and find out, but again some things never change and I am too lazy).

I am in-house at a bank and I LOVE it. Michael and I have a 3 year old son (Aidan) and everyone id doing great. Again – thanks for the Christmas card – it was great to hear from an old (and I do really mean “old” ha,ha) friend. Email me sometime if you get a chance.

    Happy Holidays!
