Speed hung up his soccer cleats back in April and has kept himself fully occupied with lacrosse, football, and baseball. So I was surprised that he expressed interest in playing on the 7th grade team at school. It’s very informal–just as it was when Madysen played on the 8th grade team last year–he signed up to play on Thursday and played on Friday.
The game was against ESD, and Speed showcased that he hadn’t played in nine months. Now I expected his touch to be off and for him to be a little out of sorts because he’d never played or practiced with any of these boys. But I was surprised (and irritated) to watch him lounge about. Anyway, they lost 2-0. He says he had fun. Hopefully, I won’t pop a blood vessel at the next game.
