Third Place Finishes Aren’t Terrible: JV Soccer Tournament

Following up on her success in her first live high school soccer experiences last week, Madysen played in a JV soccer tournament on Thursday-Saturday. The best thing was that she got out of school early on Thursday for their 3 p.m. game against Colleyville Heritage, which features one of Madysen’s old teammates and friends. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, and they went directly to a shootout. For those unaware, a shootout is like penalty kicks you see in the World Cup except that the ball is placed twenty-five yards out and the attacker can dribble up and the keeper can come off her goal line (and there is a five second time limit). It is much more exciting (and fair to the keeper) than penalty kicks.

Someone told the coach that Madysen would be great at this. That someone was not me nor was it Madysen. I got her attempt on film:

This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.

Luckily, they didn’t need that one. But out of five shooters for each team only one scored–for HP.

That win put them into the semifinals against Allen Red on Friday afternoon (they did not miss any school though). I was in a rage at Speed’s game, but Holly reported that Madysen played well assisting on their only goal. It wasn’t enough as they lost 2-1.

That loss put them into the third place game against Rowlett on Saturday afternoon. It was pretty cold and windy afternoon, but they got a 3-0 win. Madysen had another assist and was grateful that she avoided another shootout.
