Holly Is No Stranger To Law Enforcement Professionals [Holly]

I’ve taken quite a bit of greif about The Accident (and the resulting surgeries)–yada, yada, yada. But in fairness to me, Holly has a much more robust familiarity with our local black and white patrol. For example, this post from April.

The most recent encounters: She was stopped a couple of weeks ago for running a red light. She mentioned to the policeman that it was close, and he responded: “No, it wasn’t.” She also got a ticket for expired inspection sticker and for not having an updated license (it’s only been 18 months since we moved, sheesh). Lesson learned, right? Well, on the very next afternoon, as she went through an intersection late, the automated cameras were snapping up a storm. So I’m pretty sure we’ll be getting that ticket in the mail soon.

But it’s not always an antagonistic relationship. On Thursday, as she was exiting the grocery store she noticed a dinted area on the back of her car.

Holly looked for a note but found none. Then the security guy came by and asked whether that was new because he thought he saw something happen when another car tried to park in the adjacent space. Then the car backed out and parked two rows over. Part of the car’s front bumper had broken off and was sitting there in the spot. (Evidence that people are both immoral and dumb.) So Holly called the cops and then moved her car to block in the offending vehicle. The police got there, and then the driver came out. Of course, they didn’t have the insurance verification with them. And because the accident happened on private property, the police couldn’t give a ticket nor take any action about the lack of insurance. That makes a lot of sense.

This makes the second time in the last two years that we’ve been on the receiving end of collisions where the drivers were without insurance and escaped culpability. Not sure the system makes sense.
