Boy is Holly getting old. It doesn’t seem like it, but nine years ago today Layla was born. Some festivities are planned for tonight, others for this weekend. But she was very excited that as she went to sleep last night it was snowing. Really. Of course, I’m sure she’ll be a little disappointed that there is almost no visible evidence of it today.
And let me tell one semi-related birthday story that I’ve been sitting on for a couple of weeks. Around Valentine’s Day, Holly was doing something in the little girls room while they were in the shower. They couldn’t hear her, but she could hear them. Within a couple of minutes, Madysen, Speed, and I were listening in as well. The following is a close approximation of their conversation:
Layla: “So, what am I getting for my birthday.”
Emma: “I can’t tell you. It’s a secret.” [In actuality, we hadn't purchased anything at that time, but Emma never resorted to the I-don't-know defense.]
L: “Come on. You told me last year.”
E: [Some weak defense about how that was just one present.]
L: “I’m not telling you your presents when your birthday comes.”
E: “Oh man.”
. . .
L: “I can’t wait for my party. If Sophia can’t come, nobody can.”
E: “I can. I’m your sister.”
L: “Nope. No Sophia, no party.”
E: “But I live here.”
L: “Sorry.”
E: “Layla!”
. . .
L: “It’s time we got out of the shower.”
E: “I haven’t washed my hair . . . or my body.”
L: “Ugh. Do I have to do everything? I’ll help.”
. . .
L: “Okay, get up.” [?]
L: “Seriously, get up. We’re done.”
L: “If you don’t get up before I count to 3, I’m going to pee on you. One, . . . .”
E: “Layla!”
L: “Two, . . . Three.”
E: “Layla!”
L: “I’m not going to pee on you, cause you’d just go tell Mom on me. You little tattletale.”
E: “Yeah, she’d spank your butt.”
L: “Actually, you’d probably tell Dad, and he’d throw me across the room onto my bed.”
E: “Yeah.”
Awesome.
