Earlier, I joked about Madysen enjoying actually winning a game when guest-playing last weekend, but the truth is she’s had a pretty good little run this spring with the JV and Varsity squads. They won their first round game handily, and in round two they were paired up against Paris North Lamar. The game was played in Denison–about 70 miles north of Dallas and only a few miles south of Oklahoma. Fun!
I made the trip as I suspected Madysen might get some decent playing time. It was 4-0 at half, and the girls were feeling pretty loose.

Madysen gives piggybacks to teammates; what a team player

A serious talking to by the assistant coach

The talk obviously worked
Madysen got some time in the second half and played her best game to date with the varsity. They won 8-0.

First touch was good

Attacking

Still attacking

Really still attacking--followed by a good cross that I missed

Chasing down the ball--she got there

The final
Then the real festivities started. Madysen (as always) was slow emerging from the post-game chat. So we were the last ones leaving–and the Jeep wouldn’t start. Awesome. We tried to pop the clutch, the very idea of which (after explaining that she’d have to get out and push) mortified her. And it didn’t work. Eventually a tow truck arrived to give a jump but that didn’t work either. So we had to get towed 40 miles to the dealership. Madysen loved sitting in the truck’s cab with me, the driver, and his assistant; it was not meant to seat four people. We got home three hours later than she would have if she’d ridden the bus home. She may never complain about the bus again–but she probably will.
