Summer Recap: Activities Abound [Kids]

Looking back over the last three months’ worth of post, this probably looks to have been a pretty tame summer. Lots of reading and movies for me, a couple haircuts, drivers ed for Speed, gymnastics camp for Emma, Madysen and Speed’s trip with Nana and Pop to Florida, plus THE TRIP, but otherwise not much going on. Though no one played any summer sports (for the first time I can recall, btw), nothing could be further from the truth. I think the kids have only been home together for about a week total.

So let’s quickly recap:

  • Art Camp for Layla and Emma. They made some pretty cool stuff; Emma made a lazy susan, while Layla’s big item is still under wraps for some future gift giving.
  • Madysen joined a new club soccer team, going back up to the 93 age group–FC Dallas Red 93. They have some interesting out-of-town tournaments scheduled; hopefully, it will be a great year.
  • Madysen went to both OU and LSU soccer camps. The latter camp was with her new team, which only gave me slight relief.
  • Speed spent most of the summer at a “Performance Camp,” i.e., a running camp for football. Lots of fun running almost everyday of the summer.
  • Cooking Camp for Layla and Emma. They had a great time and made dinner at home after it ended. The menu: capresi salad, polenta canapes, creamy turkey, breaksticks, homemade ginger ale, and peach cobbler. Pretty tasty.
  • Emma and Layla spent the better part of a week with Nana and Pop in Houston.
  • Holly and some combination of kids took several trips to Oklahoma to see various family members.
  • And finally, Emma and a friend TP’d a friends house during a sleepover.

A little heavy on the lipstick, no?
