The Spring Club Season And Hanging Up The Boots [Soccer]

So high school soccer ended sooner than we had hoped. And since there is no rest for the weary, the spring club soccer season started in earnest–five games in three weeks. At the end of the fall season, they were in 6th place (out of 8 teams).

And the spring season was worse. Much worse, I’d say. Zero wins, 5 losses, 0 goals scored, 18 goals allowed. Details:

  • D’Feeters 6 – FCDR 0
  • FCD 1 – FCDR 0
  • Solar 2 – FCDR 0
  • Sting West 4 – FCDR 0
  • Dallas Texans Red 5 – FCDR 0

In the middle of that run, the team also went to Blue Chip Showcase Tournament outside Cincinnati. Playing pretty good competition, they had 1 draw and 2 losses (1-1 vs Erie Admirals, 1-5 vs Cincinnati United Cup Crew Juniors Gold, and 0-1 vs Empire United/Rochester Blue). I can’t really tell you how the tournament went since Madysen got a concussion in a collision with a large goalkeeper the night before she and Holly were traveling. (Not her first or even second head injury.) She was woozy for a couple days but seems fully recovered now.

The club season officially ended with 2 more losses in State Cup (0-3 vs Texas Spirit and 0-1 vs Sting).

Following this long and disappointing year of club and high school soccer and considering the head injuries that afflicted Madysen, she’s decided to hang up her boots. That’s right. No more soccer for her, which means there is no one playing in our house. That’ll take some getting used to.
