Seems like forever ago now, but in early June, Holly, Layla, Emma, and I went on a little five-day vacation outside Austin at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort. (Madysen and Speed were otherwise detained–she was cashiering at the city pool, he had fitness camp.)
We took a detour on the way to have lunch at The Gristmill overlooking the Guadalupe River in Gruene. The girls were really wanting to jump in the river and float. We did not indulge them.
The Lost Pines Resort is cut out of a nature preserve bounded by the Lower Colorado River. It’s super family friendly with a large pool area that includes a lazy river, a water slide, and a beach area; bicycling; tennis courts; frisbee golf; butterfly and hummingbird gardens; a horse stable; and nightly smores and kid movies on the lawn. We made liberal use of everything except the horses–didn’t bring horseriding-appropriate gear.
Off property, they have a number of activities as well, two of which caught our fancy–a sunset rafting ride on the river and a wall climbing-zip line combo. Because of a couple days of significant rain, it wasn’t until the last 24 hours that we got to do them both.
And the girls loved the rafting, especially when they got to get out of the raft and float alongside in the freezing river. They also had a great time the following morning doing the wall climbing and zip lining. Emma, except for the time she ran across a spider, preferred the climbing. Layla was a bigger fan of the zip line.
On the way home, we stopped by Louie Mueller Barbeque in Taylor for some of the best bbq anyway. Holly wasn’t that excited about waiting 30 minutes in line to get meat, but Layla loved, loved, loved the ribs. And the nice gentleman donated over 200 bottle caps to Layla’s collection. She was especially stoked to get several Big Red caps.
Fun, I guess.
